IDAHOBIT 2020

Sunday May 17th markโs the 30th anniversary of IDAHOBIT – International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia & Transphobia ๐ณ๏ธโ๐๐
On this day in 1990 the World Health Organisation finally removed homosexuality from the International Classification of Diseases.
The statistics in Australia are still frightening;
75% of LGBTIQ youth experience some form of discrimination.
61% of LGBTIQ youth experience verbal abuse.
19% of LGBTIQ youth experience physical bullying.
24.4% of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual people experience depression
36.2% of Trans Australians experience depression
COMPARED TO
6.8% of the general population who experience depression
Over the past 6 years, The Purple Bombers have helped break down these barriers. Our aim is become a leader in helping the Essendon Football Club, and the AFL in being leaders of change by creating a safe environment for LGBTIQ supporters and players, by encouraging and promoting diversity, inclusion and acceptance within the wider football community.
The Purple Bombers are proud to support this incredible milestone of IDAHOBIT and invite you to share it with us. Post photos of you, your friends and your family in your AFL supporter gear, tag @purplebombers and#idahobit โ weโll be sharing our favourites across the day on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter!
